Mint Product Quiz is a Shopify app made by Mint Labs ("we", "us"). It lets a merchant add a product-finder quiz to their Shopify store: shoppers answer questions and get product recommendations from the merchant's catalogue. On the Pro plan the merchant can add an email step that saves the shopper as a customer in the merchant's Shopify store. This policy explains what the app handles about merchants and shoppers, why, and when it's deleted. For shopper data we act as a service provider (processor) to the merchant, who is the controller.

The short version

  • The quiz runs in the shopper's browser. Answers are scored there; recommended products are loaded from the merchant's own store.
  • Our database holds no shopper personal data: no emails, names, answers tied to a person, IP addresses or customer IDs.
  • Analytics are anonymous counts per quiz and day (starts, questions reached, answers chosen, products shown, opened and added to cart). No cookies, no browser storage, no identifiers.
  • Emails from the email step (Pro) are sent straight to the merchant's Shopify customers. Email marketing consent is recorded only when the shopper ticks the box, which is never ticked in advance.
  • We never sell or share data, use it for advertising or AI training, or combine it across stores.

Information about merchants

InformationWhy
Store domain and a Shopify access tokenTo publish the merchant's quizzes to their storefront, read their products and, on Pro, save quiz sign-ups as customers.
Store name, currency and time zoneShown in the app; the currency formats revenue figures.
Quizzes and settingsTo show the quizzes and handle answers the way the merchant set them up.
Products a quiz can recommend (product ID, handle, title, and which of the quiz's tags/collections they match)Published with the quiz so the shopper's browser can score answers. Refreshed when products change and at least daily.
Plan and subscription statusRead from Shopify (Shopify App Pricing, looked up with your store's Shopify ID) to decide which features apply. Payments are handled entirely by Shopify.

Information about shoppers

WhatWhere it goesKept
Quiz answers while taking the quizStay in the shopper's browser for scoring. The page address gets a share link with the chosen answer IDs (no text, no personal data). Not stored by us
Anonymous events: quiz started, question reached, answer chosen, quiz completed, product shown / opened / added to cart, shared link openedSent to our server through the merchant's store (Shopify app proxy) and added to daily counts per quiz. No cookie, identifier or IP address is kept with them.Counts: 13 months
Connection IP addressUsed only to limit how often one connection can send events or emails, as a keyed one-way hash. The IP itself is never stored or logged.Hash: minutes (deleted within a day)
Email address and marketing consent (email step, Pro)Written to the merchant's Shopify customers: a customer is created or found by email and tagged quiz-<quiz tag>. Email marketing consent is set to subscribed (single opt-in) only if the shopper ticked the box; existing consent is never removed. Not stored by us.In the merchant's Shopify store, under their control
Answers on the customer (email step, Pro, only if the merchant turns on "Save quiz answers on customers")The chosen answers' customer tags are added, and the answers (question and answer text, including short-text answers) are saved in the customer metafield "Quiz answers" (mint_quiz.answers). The metafield is written for new customers, for a shopper logged in to that account, or when the customer has no quiz answers saved yet — never overwritten anonymously. Not stored by us.In the merchant's Shopify store, under their control
Paid orders containing quiz-recommended items (Pro revenue)Shopify sends paid orders to the app (order ID, currency and line items only — no customer details). Lines with the hidden property _mint_quiz are added to daily revenue totals per quiz. The order ID is kept so a resent notification isn't counted twice.Totals: 13 months · order IDs: 30 days

The latest email sign-ups a merchant sees in the app are read live from their Shopify customers when they open the page; we don't keep a copy. Shopper texts and emails are never written to our logs.

Storefront

The quiz sets no cookies and uses no browser storage. It loads its scripts and the recommended products from the merchant's own store and Shopify's CDN. The anonymous events above and, if the shopper uses the email step, the email and answers go through the store's app proxy to our server, which checks Shopify's signature on every request.

Privacy requests and deletion

  • Shopper data requests and erasure (Shopify's customers/data_request and customers/redact): the app holds no personal data about shoppers; the IDs of the shopper's orders kept for revenue de-duplication are deleted on erasure. The customer record itself is in the merchant's Shopify store, where Shopify handles the request.
  • Uninstall: the access token is deleted immediately and the app stops all work for the store. Everything else is deleted 48 hours later when Shopify sends shop/redact, or at the latest 30 days after uninstall.
  • Deleting a quiz deletes its analytics.

Where data is processed

The app runs on Cloudflare Workers with a Cloudflare D1 database (encrypted at rest). Shopify processes store and customer data under its own terms. We use no other sub-processors, analytics or advertising services.
